Corruption of Arcana Weekly Devlog 3

JD is taking a break this week but in his absence its been all about improving, and adapting. However there's still even MORE features for players to look forward to in just a few weeks time. Many of these new additions have come out of the blue and some have been in the works for a few weeks now. So now, without further delay, here is a list of the new changes being made for version 0.7:

Major feature: Event System

We have been hard at work at making the game feel a bit more complete, and include some of the major features we had planned for the game. Our new event system enhances travel between locations, as it allows Taro to travel from location to location via nodes on the World Map.

Travelling across these nodes will spawn random events, which are unique to each path, so you will be able to choose whether you take a shorter but risker path, or play it safe by taking a longer path. Eventually, this node system will allow Taro to find treasures, trade with merchants, survive perilous hazards and take on unique quests from all over the map.

New Enemy Types

  • A lot of new enemies have been added to fill the combat scenarios in the new random encounters on the Realm Map

  • Beasts - Beasts you might find in the wild, but they have been mutated with the corruption:
    • Rats - The corrupt power has induced a forced evolution among these creatures, increasing their size to that of a medium-sized dog, giving their tails more pronounced scales and granting them small, sharp quills on the tips of their back fur.
    • Wolves - Due to the power of corruption, the size of these beasts has become that of the Dire Wolves of old. Great, hulking beasts the size of cows. The corruption that led to this growth has also led to the size of their preferred meals being larger as well.
    • Alpha Wolves - These wolf alphas are even larger than their brethren, standing at least a foot taller than the rest of the pack and with a particular vicious cruelty within their eyes than the rest of the pack. Alphas have also fought tooth and claw to be at the top of their pack, and through this constant power struggle and the power of corruption, alpha wolves have seemed to have gained a dark and primitive magic.
  • Human Outlaws - Humans that have given into the allure of power the corruption offers, unlike other creatures, it is only their minds that have been altered:
    • Duelists - These corrupted outlaws will stop at nothing to prove they are the best, slaughtering animals, knights and towns just to boast their dark skill and finesse.
    • Shadows -Shadows enjoy torturing their foes and seeing the fear and despair in their mark’s eyes as their defences are stripped down one by one until the time to kill is mere seconds away.
    • Marksmen -  The corruption has manifested in these hunters, giving them a crazed delight while wearing their target down until they can no longer move or escape. Only then do they make their final kill shot.
    • Executioners - The power of corruption has tainted and twisted their already heavy desire to be the strongest. Their murderous intent only exacerbated by the corruption streaming through their bodies, they love nothing more than charging through human settlements and leaving a trail of corpses in their wake. Their ability to crush the armour of an Arcana Knight with their bare hands has gone from myth to reality in a short space of time.
    • Occultists - Witches who would lend their hands to bandits in the hopes of finding relics after a raid. Renegade wizards who sought to bolster their magical power through darker, more nefarious means. Outcast clerics and priests who went against their vows or enjoyed the worship of the dark gods. The magic they use is a twisted version of the magic the Arcana Knights use and so, if not prepared, can take many high ranking Arcana Knights by surprise, ensuring a slow and very painful death.
  • Sea Creatures - Creatures that reside in the great expanse of the sea, the corruption flowing through the waters has mutated them into horrifying monsters:
    • Kraken - Krakens were once the cephalopods of the sea. Their hulking size and power came from the mutation of the corruption that has spread even to the sea. Grotesque and hideous versions of their past selves, they feed on decaying flesh and live prey alike.
    • Kraken Tentacle - Summoned by the Kraken in combat and can crush Taro or restrain him

Thoth Changes

  • Added a stronger light source to break apart some of those really intense shadows

Eastern Cave Changes

  • Instead of fighting the Corrupted Golem in the middle of nowhere, there is now a cave where the colossal boss sits atop an earthen throne, and you will be able to fight him in a unique way in this grand arena.

General Changes

  • The Pause menu and Inventory menu have been merged into one menu
  • The old cards have been removed from the inventory
  • 2 new potions have been added (with art to follow)
    • Rage Potion - Increases Taro's outputting physical damage for the next 5 turns
    • Swift Potion - Increases the amount of cards Taro is able to play each round
